In the Reform district, various streets were named after projects of Soviet space travel during the GDR era . The naming made in 2003 should take this into account, although Western projects should now also be taken into account.
The background to the renaming of the original "Hans-Hauschulz-Strasse" were allegations directed against Hauschulz that he was involved in Stalinist persecution measures. With an application dated December 6, 2001, the parliamentary groups of the SPD and CDU applied for the renaming of Hans-Hauschulz-Strasse and Walter-Kaßner-Strasse. By resolution of April 11, 2002, the city council commissioned the majority to prepare for the renaming; on January 9, 2003 it was decided to rename.

Walk to the French church ; Old Town district ; ZIP 39104

Formerly:

  • French sack
  • French church attendance
This street no longer exists today. Originally it led from the "Große Markt Straße" to the French church. Today this corresponds to the park in the south at the eastern end of Julius-Bremer-Strasse. The corridor ran north from there. Today the French church would stand west of the Jakobstrasse skyscraper, practically in the backyard. Both Grosse Markt Street and the French Church no longer exist. From 1704 the French Reformed community had built a church here, but it burned down in 1804. The new building was inaugurated in 1806, but it was destroyed by air raids during World War II. After the heavy destruction caused by air raids in World War II, the reconstruction was not carried out according to the old city structure. A modern socialist city was to take the place of the narrow streets of the old town . It was therefore erected GDR prefabricated buildings while the existing structure was destroyed. Today this is often seen as a problematic urban development decision, which severely damaged the identity of the city of Magdeburg and changed the cityscape more permanently than the war destruction itself did.

The name Gustloff is better known today from the German passenger ship " Wilhelm Gustloff ", which was sunk in 1945 . After the end of the National Socialist dictatorship, the street was renamed.

Gutenbergstrasse ; District of Old Town ; ZIP 39106

The street was named in 1900 by the city council after the inventor of the printing press Johannes Gutenberg . A private association had previously acquired a bust of Gutenberg. Gutenberg's stay in Magdeburg is not documented, but the fact that Magdeburg was one of the early locations of printing works should be taken into account. The city council gave 1,000 marks from the city budget for the monument erected with the bust. At the same time it was decided that "the first western parallel street to Lüneburger Strasse should be called" Gutenbergstrasse. "

Gutensweger Strasse ; Rothensee district ; ZIP 39126

Named after the village Gutenswegen, south of Haldensleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

GutsMuthsweg ; District Sudenburg ; ZIP 39112

Named after the pedagogue and co-founder of the gymnastics movement Johann Christoph Friedrich Guts Muths .
