Hopfengarten is a small district in the south of Magdeburg , which goes back to the development of villas, terraced and single-family houses after 1900.
location
The hop garden extends over an area of 2.7894 km² and has 4,754 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016). The average age is 43.9 years (as of 2001). The following streets surround the hop garden: In the north the Schilfbreite, in the west the Leipziger Chaussee and in the south the Ottersleber Chaussee . The SKET industrial site and a disused heap are adjacent to the east . The district is cut centrally by the street Am Hopfengarten in a west-east direction.
Transport and transport links
With a few exceptions, the hop garden is a 30 km / h zone.
Line 58 runs through the district. In addition, bus route 57 runs on the northern edge of the district at the corner of Schilfbreite / Hopfenbreite. On the western edge of the district on Leipziger Chaussee, trams 6 and 9 (towards Neustädter See) and regional bus companies operate. There is also a taxi rank here.
Education and culture
On the edge of the hop garden there is a primary school and a kindergarten. Every two weeks, the mobile library of the city library stops at the central meeting point, the Hopfenplatz. The cultural monuments in the district are listed in the local monument register .
The Christ Congregation in the Hopfengarten together with the St. Michaels, St. Ambrosius, Philippus and St. Sebastians congregations form the Magdeburg parish south. The parish hall of the Christ Congregation was built in 1934 for the newly created garden city Hopfengarten.
Health and sport
There are various medical practices in the district so that basic services are well guaranteed.
In the eastern part there is a large meadow where football is played. The Hopfengartenlauf is a major sporting event every year. This is organized by the local sports club HSV Medizin Magdeburg eV.
Economy and Infrastructure
The service industry predominates in the southern hop garden. There are no industrial or agricultural businesses, many residents work in other parts of the city. There are several business parks in the northern part.
Every household is connected to the Magdeburg Municipal Works (SWM) supply network. The sewage network was partially renovated in autumn 2003.
Personalities
In 1910, the art historian Paul Ferdinand Schmidt (1878–1955) had the well-known architect Heinrich Tessenow build his house in the Hopfengarten for himself, Haus zum Wolf .
