Stadtfeld West is a western district of Magdeburg with 14,733 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016) on an area of 4.6708 km².
location
The district extends west of the Westring / Europaring road to Kümmelsberg / Diesdorfer Graseweg, where the Diesdorf district adjoins. The border to the southern district of Sudenburg is formed on Beimsstraße by the Magdeburg-Sudenburg level crossing, which connects the Magdeburg – Braunschweig railway line . In the north, the Neue Renneweg borders Stadtfeld West from Neu Olvenstedt and the Kümmelsberg Stadtfeld West from Alt Olvenstedt . In the east it borders - from the intersection Olvenstedter Chaussee / Albert-Vater-Str. beginning - the Europaring or the Westring (ends at the Westringbrücke), Stadtfeld West from Stadtfeld Ost . The area is divided into three settlement areas, the Spielhagenstrasse area, the Hermann-Beims-Siedlung and Lindenweiler (from east to west). Westfriedhof , Magdeburg's largest cemetery, is located on the border with Diesdorf . Other striking points are the St. Marienstift Catholic Hospital and the “GutsMuths Stadium” sports complex. The shot flows through the district as open water from west to east.
history
Harsdorfer Platz is a reminder that the area was already settled in the Middle Ages. The village of Harsdorf , located in the area of today's southern Lindenweiler, is mentioned as the property of the Corway monastery as early as 900 . In the 16th century the residents had left the settlement. Urban development took place only after the end of the First World War as part of the urban development plan initiated by Bruno Taut in 1922. The Hermann-Beims-Siedlung, named after the then Lord Mayor Hermann Beims, was built south of the Große Diesdorfer Straße between 1925 and 1929 . It was formed by a network of straight streets and built with three-storey houses by the head of the city expansion office, Konrad Rühl . The settlement with 2,000 apartments is a prime example of social housing in the New Building style and is now a listed building. In contrast, the suburban settlement of Lindenweiler was built in 1932. Designed as a self-help object for the unemployed, each settler had to do his own work and acquire the property in the form of a hereditary building contract . A total of 50 two-storey semi-detached houses were built, and each of the approximately 50 m² apartments had a kitchen garden. Although already planned in 1927 in the development plan, the Spielhagenstrasse complex was not developed until 1964. Four to five-story apartment blocks with a total of 1,200 apartments and public facilities were built in the style of GDR housing construction of the 1960s. In 1991 the previously unified urban district of Stadtfeld was separated into Stadtfeld Ost and Stadtfeld West.
