The Schrote is a river in the northern Magdeburger Börde in the German state Saxony-Anhalt . The name comes from Middle High German and means "cut", a reference to his deeply incised bed in places.
The source of the shot is on the edge of the Mühlenberg in the village of Hemsdorf at a level of 107 meters above sea level. It first flows through Niederndodeleben , where it meets the Sieggraben and Siegrenne, and lies on its way to the Magdeburg district of Diesdorf in a scenic valley, the slopes of which rise steeply in parts.
Before the shot reaches Diesdorf, it is dammed by a retention basin that was built in the 1960s to catch the flood. In the city of Magdeburg, the river was relocated and straightened several times. It initially flows through the districts of Diesdorf, Stadtfeld West and Stadtfeld Ost as open water, and in the Goethestrasse area its bed is paved. At the end of Goethestrasse, the river turns north and crosses the districts of Alte Neustadt , Neue Neustadt , Rothensee and Barleber See . On this stretch it has been partially piped, but uses an old river bed north of Neustädter See . In the area of the Barleber See , the Schrote crosses under the Federal Motorway 2 and the Mittelland Canal and receives another inflow through the Große Sülze . The shot flows into the ear south-east of Wolmirstedt . At the level there of 43 meters above sea level, the difference in altitude to the source 30 kilometers away is 64 meters.
In the north of Magdeburg, the " Schroteradweg " is being built, which roughly follows the course of the river through the city to the Barleber See. The Schroteradweg includes both structural measures in the form of its own route guidance as well as the general route guidance outside of bicycle traffic facilities.
