location

It is located at the address Birkenweg 7 on the east side of the Birkenweg in a corner to the street Im Grünen in the Magdeburg district of Hopfengarten .

History and architecture

The two-storey plastered house was built in 1910 for the assistant director Paul Ferdinand Schmidt based on a design by the well-known architect Heinrich Tessenow .

The building is covered with a steep gable roof, which is pulled down over an extension. The facades are simply designed and poorly structured. They are characterized by shutters and delicate lattice windows. The typical elements had been lost in the course of the building's existence, but were restored.

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 70619 .

The building is considered important for Magdeburg's architectural history because of the important architect. At the same time, with the execution of the traditional house type and the restrained design language, it is regarded as typical of the reform architecture of the construction period.
