This street was located directly south of the Johanniskirche about half way between the Elbe and today's intersection Ernst-Reuter-Allee and Jacobstraße. The name had been in use since 1817. Before that, the name Johannisfahrt was used. Until 1725 you could get from this street to the church over a bridge spanning the conveyor in front of the Johanniskirche. In 1725, the fortress governor, Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau, had the funds raised. After the heavy destruction of the area in World War II, the road was built over.
