In parallel, the, popularly known as was the station forecourt called, northern part of the Bahnhofstrasse in Willy-Brandt -Platz renamed. This agreement between the CDU and SPD parliamentary groups and the fact that it was not possible to include public opinion on the naming of the centrally located squares, which was not possible in this way, caused displeasure. All the more so since Konrad Adenauer's only known quote about Magdeburg is not flattering for the city. Then Konrad Adenauer is said to have said: "When I get to the north German lowlands near Magdeburg, Asia begins for me." The amendment request by the alliance greens voting against the renaming to affix this quote from the CDU politician under the street sign was rejected with the votes of the CDU.

Today:
The cloister street originally ran in a west-east direction from Breite Weg behind today's front house of the state parliament along to government street . From 1401 this street was initially a dead end. In 1724, the cloister of the St. Nikolai Church , which gave the street its name, was demolished in order to enable passage from Domplatz to Breite Weg . By 1731, the Kreuzgangstraße was built at the same time as Poststraße , as a connection between Domplatz and Breiter Weg. After the destruction of the Second World War, the city was rebuilt, which in large parts did not adhere to the established urban structure. Since then, the cloister street has been running in a north-south direction and is only in the northern part in the area of the original street course. In the southern area, the cloister street is the western boundary of the cathedral square. Today the Hundertwasserhaus Magdeburg is located on the site of the original western section . Until 2006, the cloister street bent to the west at the northern end and led to the Breite Weg as a footpath . By resolution of the city council on November 9, 2006, this section was renamed Erhard-Hübener-Platz at the request of the FDP . For this purpose, the at that time unnamed footpath from the north end of Kreuzgangstrasse to Government Street was reassigned to Kreuzgangstrasse in response to a request for change from the CDU parliamentary group. Instead of turning to the west, it has since turned to the east.
