The new waterways construction department in Magdeburg is one of seven new construction and expansion offices of the federal waterways and shipping administration . It is subordinate to the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping .

The new waterway construction office in Magdeburg is responsible for the expansion of the Elbe-Havel canal , the Rothenseer connecting canal and parts of the Mittelland canal , in particular within the framework of project 17 of the German unity transport project .

The administration building of the Waterways Construction Office, built in 1994 and 1995 on the Kleiner Werder between Elbe and Zollelbe , was awarded the architecture prize of the state of Saxony-Anhalt for public buildings in 1995.

history

The Magdeburg Waterways Construction Office was founded on January 1st, 1992 to carry out the measures of Project 17 of the German Unity Transport Project and was initially entrusted with the planning and construction of the Magdeburg waterway intersection . Since June 1992, the Neubauamt has also been entrusted with the planning and expansion of the Elbe-Havel Canal. At the beginning of 2007, the Neubauamt took over the project for the construction of the Tornitz lock canal from the Magdeburg Waterways and Shipping Office .
