Karen Fredersdorf

Karen Fredersdorf (born October 4, 1892 in Magdeburg ; † April 29, 1985 ibid) was a German singer and actress .

Life

Herbert B. Fredersdorf's sister grew up in Magdeburg, studied singing at the Royal Conservatory in Dresden and completed dance and acting training.

In 1917 she took up a position as a soubrette at the Hof Theater in Greiz . For health reasons, however, she had to end her career as a singer in 1922 and devoted herself entirely to acting. In 1924 Fredersdorf returned to Magdeburg to the Wilhelmtheater . She was seen in more than 200 roles in Magdeburg for several decades. With her strong personal charisma and an intensive design of her roles, Fredersdorf became one of the most important actresses of this time in the region.

Fredersdorf played his first role in the film in 1938 ( Northern Lights ).

After the end of the Second World War , Fredersdorf was also involved in training young actors.

In 1951 she left Magdeburg and went to the German Theater in Berlin , engaged by Wolfgang Langhoff . In 1954, however, Fredersdorf returned to Magdeburg and worked there at the theater for another 14 years. During this time she also worked on several DEFA film productions .

The city of Magdeburg named a street in her honor ( Karen-Fredersdorf-Straße ).
