The Sankt-Egidius-Kirche is a Protestant church in the Magdeburg district of Beyendorf-Sohlen , district of Sohlen. It is dedicated to St. Aegidius .

Building history

The origins of this small late Romanesque village church date back to the 12th century. The oldest part of the church is the western part of the nave from this time . Around 1200, the church tower, designed as a west transverse tower, was added, which admittedly directly adjoins the nave, but was not interlocked with it. The tower was built on the older west gable wall of the ship. The older gable was preserved with parts of the historical plastering.

During the Gothic period , the nave was extended to the east. At the eastern end a polygonal apse was built in the 14th century . The roof structure of the church, which dates back to the time before the Thirty Years' War and is therefore the oldest roof structure in the entire Magdeburg region, is remarkable . There are tracery windows in the choir .

The vestibule to the south was built in the Baroque era , other sources date the hall to the year 1875. Some windows were also enlarged. The sound openings of the tower also go back to this time. The oak door on the vestibule was inscribed in the 1870s.

From the end of August 2005, the church was renovated for over a year. The roof was re-covered with plain tiles. The church was newly plastered on both the inside and the outside. A winter church was installed under the gallery . An electrically heated room was created there, separated by a glass wall.

The church has a uniform baroque interior, which was reduced during restoration work in 1875. A pulpit altar from the period 1710 to 1720 and a baptismal font made of sandstone , which, according to an inscription, dates from 1677, are remarkable .
