history

St. Marienstift Chapel

The chapel was built between 1904 and 1906 as part of the establishment of the St. Marienstift , which was originally a boarding school for girls , an orphanage and home for the sisters of St. Elisabeth . The inauguration of the facility took place on October 18, 1906. The Magdeburg Jungfrauenverein donated the original high altar for the chapel. In 1926 the chapel was equipped with a harmonium and, as part of a renovation in 1957, received an organ and a mosaic in the chancel.

The chapel of the house, which has been a hospital since 1909 and was temporarily used as a military hospital , is now a place of worship for the St. Sebastian Cathedral Parish . In addition to regular church services and prayers by the nuns, organ concerts are held in it to this day.
