Saint Thomas Church

St. Thomas is a Protestant church in the Magdeburg district of Pechau .

history

The church was first mentioned in 1221, when it was owned by the St. Laurentius monastery.

In 1856 the church received an organ and in 1894 the church tower was rebuilt. During World War 1917 the larger of the two bells was melted down, the smaller one in 1943. In 1944 the church suffered severe damage from bombs and grenades. It was only renovated in 1987 on a larger scale.

Building

Sankt Thomas is an early Gothic, flat-roofed hall building with pointed arched windows. The walls are made of plastered rubble stones.
