The Sankt-Petri-Kirche is the Protestant church of Beyendorf , the northern part of the Beyendorf-Sohlen district of the city of Magdeburg .

The church was built as a Romanesque hall church until the middle of the 12th century and was consecrated to Saints Peter and Paul . To the east is the Beyendorf rectory , which is also listed .

architecture

On the west side of the nave there is a transverse tower, which is slightly larger than the nave. The somewhat retracted choir has a polygonal apse with a 5/8 end . In the two gables of the tower there are Romanesque gable crosses and blind arcades . A porch adjoins the north side of the church.

history

The ship and tower were built until the middle of the 12th century. During the Gothic period , probably in the first half of the 15th century, the choir and apse were added. The northern vestibule was built in the second half of the 17th century as access to the newly built galleries. At the same time, the windows were significantly enlarged. The door to the nave also dates from this time. Inside the church there are still Romanesque window openings.

After an accident involving the pastor from Buckau and Fermersleben, the Beyendorfer pastor was also active as a substitute in the Buckau and Fermersleben churches in 1828/29, along with other colleagues .

In 1850, the organ builder from Magdeburg, Bötticher, installed the organ in the west gallery. In 1939 a partial renovation was carried out. One of the three galleries was demolished in order to better illuminate the interior of the church. From 1989 to 2001 the organ, tower clock and bell were repaired.

Extensive renovation and restoration work was carried out from mid-2005 to the end of 2006. In addition to a renewal of the roof structure, the exterior facade of the church was redesigned in color.

Furnishing

The furnishings are uniform in the Baroque style from the second half of the 17th century.

The altar , based on its inscription from 1695, shows the Lord's Supper in the predella . Under a crown representing the resurrection, the crucifixion is depicted in the middle.

War memorial north of the church

The pulpit, decorated with richly carved work, was also built in the same period . The pulpit has reliefs of the four evangelists. The sound cover is provided with a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit. There is a painting of Peter on the door leading to the pulpit.

There are two galleries in the nave. According to its inscription, the northern gallery dates from 1618 and was therefore built before the Thirty Years War . Preserved facilities from this period are rarely found. The western gallery was made in 1679 and also bears the year as an inscription.

Various coats of arms are attached to the balustrade , including that of the von Lochow family .

In the vicinity of the church there are a number of large older tombstones and a war memorial commemorating the victims of World War II . Concerts take place regularly in the church.

In the local register of monuments , the church is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 97505 .
