Neustädter See is a district in the north of the city of Magdeburg .

Area and inhabitants

11,422 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) live in the district on an area of ​​4.7909 km².

Unemployment is slightly above the average for the city of Magdeburg. However, the proportion of recipients of social benefits is below average. At 1.4%, the proportion of foreigners is also still below the Magdeburg average (as of 2002).

The district is subdivided into the statistical districts Barleber Straße / Lumumbastraße , Barro-See , Eichenweiler , Neustädter Platz , Neustädter See and Ziolkowskistraße , which, however, only have a statistical function.

In the north Neustädter See borders the municipality of Barleben , in the east on the industrial area Nord and Rothensee , in the south on Neue Neustadt and in the west on Kannenstieg and Sülzegrund .

The area of the district served for centuries primarily as agricultural land north of the gates of the resultant in the Middle Ages Neustadt and later the New Town .

From 1920, the garden city of Eichenweiler was built in the south of the area, initially for railway employees at the Rothensee marshalling yard .

After the destruction of Magdeburg in World War II , a large-scale gravel quarry was carried out north of the Neustadt to rebuild the city. The Neustädter See was created .
