Grünewalde is a district of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The district is one kilometer from the city center and is on the opposite, right-hand side of the Elbe .

history

A yaw ferry across the Elbe has been documented around the site of today's Elbe bridge since 1447. Since 1671 shiphands, boat builders and ship millers had settled there. In 1699 the village of Grünewalde emerged on the Elbenau corridor, from the Saxon customs office, the ferry master's inn and the settlements. The name Grünewalde goes back to the forest of the same name "Am Grünen Walde". At that time the village belonged to the Elbenau parish.

From 1816 to March 31, 1913 Grünewalde belonged to the district of Jerichow I , after which a district change took place in the district of Calbe a./S. and the place was incorporated into Schönebeck together with Elbenau on April 1, 1913, as a prerequisite for the approval to build the Elbe bridge . At the time of incorporation, the community had around 490 inhabitants.

Because of the nearby forest areas on the right bank of the Elbe and the easy accessibility by ferry or bridge, Grünewalde is a popular excursion destination for the people of Schönebeck. Several excursion restaurants and bathing establishments arise. At the same time, Grünewalde is also becoming a popular building site for wealthy families, with numerous villas dating from around 1900.

A shipyard existed upstream of the Elbe bridge until around 1920. The current structure of the district consists of a few small businesses and a farmer mainly of residential buildings. In Grünewalde there are 102 inhabitants per square kilometer. 0.3 square kilometers of the local area are built on.
