history

The originally Slavic settlement appears for the first time in documents in 1176 . The village church of St. Lucas dates from the 13th century. The seclusion often saved the community from looting and destruction (during the Thirty Years' War and 1806).

Ranies was hit by witch hunts in 1692/93 . The 24-year-old Catharina, wife of Heinrich Randel, got into a witch trial . She was accused of having a devil's pot. She was imprisoned for eight days.

The Ranieser Choir can look back on over 125 years of tradition. The Carnival Monday parades , which have been taking place since 1954, are a national attraction .

On January 1, 2009, Ranies was incorporated into the city of Schönebeck.
