The Grünewalde war memorial is a listed war memorial in the Grünewalde district of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in the northern part of the Grünewalde cemetery.

Design and history

The memorial was erected for ten named victims of the First World War .

It consists of a cuboid resting on a small base. There are inscriptions on the four sides of the cuboid commemorating the fallen and naming them.

In the local register of monuments , the war memorial is listed as a small memorial under registration number 094 98307 .

Inscriptions

On the south side, below the depiction of an iron cross framed by oak leaves, there is the inscription:
In memory of those
who died for us

On the east side, the names and dates of death of the fallen are given:

The north side bears the year numbers as an inscription:

1914 1918

between which there is an image of an iron cross.

The west side shows the names and dates of five other fallen:

A little further to the south-west is a memorial stele in the cemetery, which also commemorates the fallen of the Second World War by name.
