Elbeu is a district of the city of Wolmirstedt in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The Mittelland Canal runs directly south of the village . Federal highway 189 , which originally ran through Elbeu, passes to the west of the town .
history
Elbeu was originally located directly on the west bank of the Elbe , but its river bed now runs several kilometers further east. 1136 Elbeu is mentioned as a royal Elbe customs post . Even today there is a building known as the customs house at the southern exit of the village, which in essence goes back to the Middle Ages . Due to its strategically important location, the margravial Hildagsburg existed southeast of the town in the Middle Ages . Around 1300 a steadily increasing importance of the eastern Elbar was created which became the actual bed of the river. Elbeu and the castle lost their meaning. The former location on the river can still be recognized today by the north-south extension of the Elbeus and the landscape that slopes sharply to the east.
In 1803 the road leading through the Elbeu from Magdeburg via Wolmirstedt to Stendal was built. The Mittelland Canal in the Elbeu area was built around 1927.
On July 14, 1928, construction workers from the canal and Elbeu people founded the local sports club SSV Stern Elbeu 1928 eV in the Zum Stern inn . On July 1, 1950, the Elbeu community was incorporated into Wolmirstedt, a little further north.

The current local mayor is Mr. Guido Kratzenberg from the local voter association Börde (KWG).
The Elbeu local council consists of 3 members, the last election of the local council took place on May 26, 2019 and the turnout was 49.80%. The members are:

Buildings
The Elbeu village church is of Romanesque origin. To the north of the village is the Vordermühle Elbeu , a historic water mill. There are no remains of the once important Hildagsburg castle.
Personalities
From 1842 the well-known teacher Christian Wilhelm Harnisch (1787–1864) was pastor in Elbeu. The theologian and general superintendent of the Prussian province of Saxony Leopold Schultze performed the same function from 1871 to 1882 .
