The Vordermühle Elbeu is a water mill in Elbeu in Saxony-Anhalt .

The mill is located north of the village of Elbeu, which belongs to the city of Wolmirstedt, on the Mühlengraben , a tributary of the Ohre .
architecture
The mill building is a two-story half - timbered building and has a Wilhelminian style facade facing the courtyard. The water wheel is on the gable end. Parts of the old mill equipment have been preserved, such as the main gearbox, the remains of the grist with stone crane, the grist made by ILUS and the elevator. In cooperation with the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences , the mill is used to generate electricity from hydropower .
history
The mill was first mentioned in documents in the 16th century. Further upstream are the Mittelmühle and, on the western edge of Jersleben , the Herrenmühle .
Grain was ground in the front mill. It was driven by a so-called Zuppinger water wheel measuring six meters in diameter . The mill, the current structure of which dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, was in operation until the 1970s, with the last drive being an electric motor . The water wheel was no longer functional and fell into disrepair. In 1972, the last miller, Rudolf Ruppert, sold the largely dilapidated mill farm to Karl-Josef Grau . The mill equipment including the wheel shaft was expanded. Grau carried out renovation work in some areas.
From 1992 a more extensive renovation took place, for which the Lower Monument Protection Authority of the Ohrekreis campaigned in particular . The mill weir was also renewed. The water wheel was remade in 1995 according to the historical model. It now has a diameter of 5.45 meters and a bucket width of 2.40 meters. As part of the promotion of the measure, the condition was issued to present the mill to the public as a show system. A café has been located in the mill's premises since 2013. The mill repeatedly took part in the German Milling Day.
