The Grote of Martinikerk ( German  Große or Martinikirche ) is the main church in the Dutch city ​​of Doesburg .

history

The Martinikerk had a previous building that was destroyed in a flood in 1340. The current church dates mainly from the 15th century , the tower was completed in 1430. The church was damaged by fire in 1483 and again after a lightning strike in 1547. The lost vaults were not replaced by a wooden structure until 1888. The Reformation was introduced in 1586 . The tower was set on fire during acts of war in 1672, and in 1717 lightning struck again. The Martinikerk was the first church in the Netherlands to receive a lightning rod in 1783. In 1945, German troops blew up the tower, which also damaged the nave. The reconstruction of the tower was completed in 1965, the renovation of the church was completed in 1972.

Organs

There are three organs in the church : a large organ on the west gallery, an organ from 1953, built by the Flentrop organ building company , and a historic single-manual instrument from 1800.

The main organ was built in 1916 by the organ builder EF Walcker & Cie. built. The instrument has a total of 66 registers , plus three transmissions from the main work to the pedal work, as well as 7 transmissions from the manuals II - IV, which form the swell work pedal work.
