The Maruti 1000 , which Suzuki and General Motors sold in countries other than Cultus / Swift / Geo Metro / Pontiac Firefly with a 1.3 or 1.6 liter engine, was presented in India in October 1990 . The price at that time was 381,000 Indian rupees (approx. 7,000 euros ). Since the Maruti company couldn't keep up with the production, a waiting list and lottery for buyers was introduced. The car weighs 850 kg and has a four-cylinder engine with 970 cm³ displacement and 34 kW ( torque 71 Nm). In 1994 the Maruti 1000 was replaced by its successor model with a more powerful engine, the Maruti Esteem .
