Mary Jane Lamond

Mary Jane Lamond (* 1960 in Kingston , Ontario ) is a Canadian folk musician who is known as an interpreter of traditional Gaelic folk songs from Cape Breton Island . She holds a degree in Celtic Studies from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish , Nova Scotia .

Lamond took over the vocal part on Ashley MacIsaac's hit song "Sleepy Maggie" (1995). She also reached with "Horo Ghoid thu Nighean", the first single from her album Suas e! (1997) a top 40 hit in Canada. This was followed by the album Làn Dùil in 1999 and Orain Ghàidhlig in 2001 , most of which were recorded live in North River ( Prince Edward Island ). In 2005 she released the stripped down studio recording of Storas .

Since 2000, Mary Jane Lamond has composed titles for films and plays, worked on radio shows and participated in a number of charitable projects. For example, as a member of the Gaelic Council of Nova Scotia , she campaigned for the preservation and revival of the Scottish-Gaelic culture on Cape Breton Island. She also works as a Gaelic teacher.

In 2005 Lamond contributed the song "Mo Mhaeli Bheag Og" to the charity album Voyces United for the UNHCR .
