Masayasu Uchida

Masayasu Uchida ( Japanese 内 田 正泰 Uchida Masayasu ; born 1922 in Yokosuka ( Kanagawa Prefecture )) is a Japanese painter, best known for his adhesive pictures.

life and work

Uchida completed his training as an architect in 1943 at what was then the Technical High School (today Yokohama State University ) in Yokohama. From 1953 he worked in the press department of what is now called Kanebo. In 1956 he founded AD, a kind of art agency. From 1960 he worked in adult education in the city of Yokohama.

In 1971 he had his first solo exhibition at the Mitsubishi Gallery under the title "The Heart of Japan" ( Nihon no kokoro ), where he exhibited stickers ( 貼 り 絵 , Hari-e ). In 1973 another exhibition took place at the Mitsubishi Gallery, the pictures of which were published by Kodansha Verlag . Uchida was awarded the President of the Association of Japanese Printing Companies ( 印刷 工業 会長 賞 , Nihon insatsu kōgyō kaichō shō ).

Other prizes and publications followed, with Uchida later also designing walls for schools and sports facilities in Yokohama with pictures made of colored tiles.

Uchida consistently creates landscape images in large-scale structures that tend to contain detailed scenes on the margins. The landscapes are seasonal, the seaside scenes are often captured in the evening light. The annual calendars designed by Uchida are a constant success.

The “Uchida Masayasu Memorial Art Gallery ” ( 内 田正泰 記念 ア ー ト ギ ャ ラ リ ー , Uchida Masayasu Kinen Āto Gyararī ) in Kamakura with permanent exhibitions has existed for several years .
