Mashgara
Mashgara (also Machghara , Arabic مشغرة Mashghara , DMG Mašġara ) is a city in the south of Lebanon , on the western slopes of the Bekaa Valley . The Litani River flows about an hour's walk from Mashgara. During the war in Lebanon (1914–1918) a canal was dug from the river to Mashgara, from which the city still takes most of its water.
Industry in Mashgara
Since 1896 there has been a tannery in Mashgara that specializes in the production of leather shoe soles. It was the first tannery in the whole of Lebanon and at that time there were no tanneries in neighboring Syria either. In 1930 this tannery was equipped with machines and still exists today. In 2006 Mashgara was bombed by the Israeli Air Force in connection with the 2006 Lebanon War.
