The heraldic coat of arms , which has found its way into modern African heraldry , is called the Masai shield .

It is pointed oval and is considered a shield pattern for the new African heraldic shields. It is named after the Maasai people who live in the area around Kilimanjaro . It is used, for example, for the coat of arms of Kenya and Tanzania , but also for the coat of arms of Uganda . Kenya also has the shield in its flag . Another coat of arms is that of Botswana , which is held by two zebras as shield holders .
