During the massacre of Merkas HaRaw Kook on March 6, 2008, the Palestinian Alaa Abu Dhein shot 23 people in a yeshiva in Jerusalem , eight of whom died.

The Merkas HaRaw Kook ( Hebrew מרכז הרב קוק) (lit.Rabbi Kook Center) is a national-religious yeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel , which was founded in 1924 by Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook . It is a very respected religious school.

The assassin planned the assassination attempt as a protest against the actions of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip , against the rocket attacks by Hamas .
