Rainiai massacre

In the Rainiai ( Lithuanian Rainių žudynės ) massacre, units of the Soviet Interior Ministry NKVD and the Red Army murdered between 70 and 80 Lithuanian political prisoners in a forest near Telšiai in Lithuania on the night of June 24-25 , 1941 . The Rainiai massacre is one of the most famous Soviet massacres in Lithuania because of its brutality and extreme torture .

For this reason, the former President of Lithuania Vytautas Landsbergis called on his successor to boycott the 2004 victory celebrations in Moscow.
