Master Gunnery Sergeant
Master Gunnery Sergeant is the third highest rank for noncommissioned officers in the United States Marine Corps .
The degree is in fact equal to the formally higher ranks Sergeant Major and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and, like them, belongs to pay group E-9. The NATO rank code is OR-9. In contrast to the Sergeant Majors, the Master Gunnery Sergeants are technical NCOs or NCOs who are deployed in the field of operations management or training (S3 departments or FGG 3 in the battalions, associations and higher command authorities).
