Master Vithal
Master Vithal (actually Vithal Raghunath ; * 1906 ; † 1969 ) was an Indian film actor of Marathic and Hindi films .
Life
He made his stage debut as a child with a Rajapurkar Natak Mandali . He got his first job in film as a technician at Baburao Painter's film company Maharashtra Film in Kolhapur . In the 1924 film Kalyan Khajina , Vithal made his film debut as an actor under the direction of Baburao Painter, playing a dancer. In the 1920s he became the star of Sharda Studios, where he appeared in Douglas Fairbanks-style period films with stunts from 1925 - often under the direction of studio founder Nanubhai Desai , as well as Anand Prasad Kapoor and Harshadrai Mehta . He played his first leading role in Ratan Manjari (1926).
In 1930 Vithal moved to the newly founded Sagar Film Company in Bombay . The following year he played the lead role alongside Zubeida in the first Indian sound film Alam Ara . From the 1940s he appeared regularly in films by Bhalji Pendharkar with Lalita Pawar or Durga Khote . In the end he only played supporting roles in marathic films; he had his last film appearance in 1966.
