Baburao Painter
Baburao Painter , actually Baburao Krishnarao Mestri , (born June 3, 1890 in Kolhapur , Kolhapur , † January 16, 1954 ibid) was an Indian film director and stage painter .
Life
Between 1910 and 1916 he was one of the leading stage painters on West Indian theater stages. This is where his name "Painter" comes from. After DG Phalke's film Raja Harishchandra , he became a film enthusiast and founded the Maharashtra Film Company in 1918 , from which the Prabhat Film Company emerged in 1929, before the appearance of talkies in India .
Baburao's first feature film was Sairandri (1920), which was heavily censored, but received attention from critics and audiences. He wrote his own scripts and introduced three-dimensional space instead of stage painting in Indian film . In 1921/22 he published the first Indian programs for films and designed the cinema posters himself.
After the commercially successful film Sinhagad (1923), Baburao Painter also tried realistic subjects , but that didn't go down well with the audience - they wanted entertainment instead of instruction.
With the advent of talkies, Baburao Painter turned back to the visual arts of painting and sculpture and directed only sporadically.
