description
The Matana exists in different versions that differ in size, shape and design. It has a slightly curved, single-edged blade that narrows from the handle to the location and is slightly concave . On the sides of the blade it has a deep hollow grind , which starts wide shortly before the handle and becomes narrower towards the place. The hollow cut runs almost into the place. The handle is made of wood or horn and has no guard . A metal clamp is attached between the handle and the blade , which is used to better secure the blade and the handle. This ferrule is decorated and still runs a bit on the back of the blade. The handle is bent towards the blade at the pommel area. the pommel is widened and worked in the shape of a hoof. The scabbards are made of horn or wood. They are widened towards the location and curved on the cutting side. The Matana is used by ethnic groups in Sulawesi.
