MathWorld is an online math encyclopedia .

The content was written by Eric Weisstein and initially published in book form as the CRC Concise Encyclopedia of Mathematics . His work was later licensed to Wolfram Research , who made the website freely accessible.

A legal dispute between the editors of the book and the online edition led in 2000 to the establishment of the Internet portal PlanetMath .
