The Matra Alice was a home computer sold in France from 1983 by the Matra company . The computer was produced by a cooperation between the companies Matra, Hachette Livre in France and the Tandy Corporation in the USA. The most noticeable main feature was the red case. Internally it was a Tandy TRS-80 MC-10 computer , to which it is logically also software-compatible. Successor devices were the Matra Alice 32 and the Matra Alice 90.

A BASIC , which is called Microcolor Basic and is based on Microsoft BASIC , serves as the user interface and programming language .

Technical specifications

In 1985 , the Alice 90 was released as the successor to the Alice 32 . In terms of technical data, it was almost identical to its predecessor, but in contrast to this, it had 40 KB of RAM and a mechanical keyboard.

Another attempt by the Matra company to book shares in the market was made some time later with the Alice 8000 ; However, this computer did not get beyond the prototype phase.

Emulators

As is common nowadays, there are also some emulators from the Matra Alice that allow you to try out the computer on modern hardware. One of these emulators is DCAlice , an emulator that, in addition to the Matra Alice 32 and 90, also emulates the Alice 4k and MC-10 computers and is still being further developed.
