from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matthias-Ehrenfried-Haus in Würzburg is the educational and meeting center of the Catholic Church for the deaneries of Würzburg-Stadt, Würzburg on the left of the Main and Würzburg on the right of the Main. It is named after the Würzburg bishop Matthias Ehrenfried . The sponsor is the Matthias-Ehrenfried-Haus in Würzburg e. V.

History of the Matthias Ehrenfried House

The Matthias-Ehrenfried-Haus (Würzburg's first Catholic regional center) was built in the ruins of the former chapter house of the former Haug collegiate monastery according to plans by the architect Bruno Brückner (Würzburg Episcopal Building Authority) and temporarily put into operation on October 2, 1972. The baroque facade of the ruin and other monument preservation requirements had to be taken into account. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on March 2, 1971. On January 13, 1973 the house was inaugurated by Bishop Josef Stangl and opened to the public. In addition to its function as an education and meeting center for Würzburg and the adjacent deaneries, it also fulfills the task of a parish community center. The management team in the early years were Rector Karlheinz Buhleier, Education Officer Edeltrud Hohmann and Managing Director Gustl Hostombe.

Tasks, projects, management

The first program appears in September 1972. The current work has since become clear in the table of contents of the semester programs. The most important areas are the open meetings, adult education, offers for children and families as well as the senior meeting center. Since 2008 the house has been participating in the multi-generation house project of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). The MEH repeatedly solicits relevant projects. Currently (2010) it is the participation in Wellcome - Help for families with small children and a project seminar with students from the Würzburg Riemenschneider-Gymnasium. After a restructuring in 2005, the house is led by education officer Jürgen Krückel, the spiritual support is incumbent on Birgit Zöller, education officer Christina Moczynski mainly looks after the elderly.

The sponsoring association Matthias-Ehrenfried-Haus in Würzburg e. V.

The association was founded on April 19, 1968 with the mandate to build the Matthias Ehrenfried House as the “center of Catholic life for the purpose of promoting youth care, adult education, leisure activities and educational work for older people in the city and region of Würzburg” to obtain. A heritable building right contract was agreed on October 16, 1969 with the Haug Church Foundation as the property owner. To this day, the diocese of Würzburg and other church and public authorities are still helping to implement the association's goals. The specific usage requirements result from the dual function of the house as a parish community center and as a supra-parish education and meeting center, which is also shown on the board of the association. The MEH has numerous rooms and facilities that are also made available to guests after consultation (see conference houses of the Diocese of Würzburg). The association is also responsible for all contracts, employment and rentals.
