Matthias Mayer (basketball player)

Matthias Friedrich Mayer (born April 7, 1981 in Wels ) is a former Austrian basketball player .

career

Mayer received his basketball training in Wels. In 1999 the 2.04 meter tall indoor player moved to Swans Gmunden , for whom he made his Bundesliga debut. With Gmunden he became national champion in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010. With Gmunden he also played in the European Cup, in 2008 he reached the round of 32 in the ULEB Cup with the team, which was celebrated as a "historic hour". There Mayer and the "swans" had no chance against the Spanish top club Joventut Badalona .

He ended his basketball career in May 2016. He played 636 Bundesliga games, which meant the league top mark at the time of his resignation.

At the national team level, Mayer played both international matches for the junior teams in his home country and for the men's national team.
