Mattie Do

Mattie Do (born in Los Angeles ) is an American director with Laotian roots. She is the first female director of a Lao feature film. Her directorial debut, the horror film Chanthaly , is the first film to be written and produced entirely in Laos. Chanthaly is also the first film from Laos to be shown at international film festivals outside of Southeast Asia (including Cannes and Toronto 2013). Do is currently working on her second feature film Dearest Sister (ນ້ອງ ຮັກ), which was co-financed, among other things, by a successful Indiegogo campaign.

Before returning to Laos in 2010, Do worked as a makeup artist for film productions in Europe and North America. Do and her husband Chris Larsen live in Vientiane , Laos, and founded the film company Sleepy Whippet Films together in 2010 .
