Maurizio Gasparri

Maurizio Gasparri (born July 18, 1956 in Rome ) is an Italian journalist and politician ( Movimento Sociale Italiano , Alleanza Nazionale and Popolo della Libertà ) and was Minister for Communication under Silvio Berlusconi from 2001 to 2005 .

Life

After graduating, Gasparri worked as a journalist for the Dissenso and All'Orizzonte . Then he became editor-in-chief of secolo d'Italia , the daily newspaper of the Movimento Sociale Italiano.

From 1992 to 1994 Gasparri was a member of the Italian Parliament for the Movimento Sociale Italiano . In the Berlusconi I cabinet , Gasparri was State Secretary under Interior Minister Roberto Maroni . Gasparri was a member of the Alleanza Nazionale between 1995 and 2009 .

From 2001 to 2005 Gasparri was Minister of Communications in the Berlusconi II cabinet . The legge Gasparri , named after him, is well known , a law to restrict media concentration in Italy. Critics accuse Berlusconi that this law is tailored to the interests of Berlusconi's Mediaset .

Gasparri lives in Rome with his wife and daughter.
