McBride Volcanic Province
As McBride Volcanic Province is volcanic complex km² in size from 5,000 in the north of Queensland in Australia called. The area is approximately 200 km from Cairns and 80 km in diameter. It is a relatively flat plateau at an altitude of 1,020 m above sea level.
There are more than 160 shield volcanoes in the geological complex , which erupted between 7.3 and 7.8 million years ago in the Late Miocene and 2.7 million years ago in the Late Pliocene . The basalt covers an underlying layer of granite .
Most famous is the Undara Volcano , which is located in the Undara Volcanic National Park . This volcano has formed the longest lava tube on earth with a length of 160 km. This structure has partially collapsed, but parts of it are accessible. There is also a wall of basalt that The Wall is called, is 40 km long and m rises above the relatively flat terrain about 20 microns.
