McKim Township is a municipality of Greater Sudbury in Ontario , Canada . Nearby are the Frood Mine and the decommissioned McKim Mine , which is or was operated by the Falconbridge Nickel Company .

history

The mine and thus the district are named after Robert McKim, a former member of the Ontario provincial parliament. The McKim Township community was originally independent.

Congregation leader Gatchell is mentioned in historiography. He was the owner of a large farm which u. a. Sudbury supplied milk. From 1907 to 1909 Gatchell was first councilor of McKim Township, later from 1923 to 1933 head.

In 1952 the Sudbury City Council first discussed the annexation of McKim Township and other areas. Some of the city councils were against it because they feared financial damage to the city and the community representatives of McKim Township spoke out against it. McKim Township finally lost its independence in January 1960 when it went up together with the Frood Mine and part of Neelon Township in Sudbury. On January 1, 2001, the new city of Greater Sudbury was formed from the old core town of Sudbury (to which McKim Township belonged), Valley East, the cities of Nickel Center, Capreol, Rayside-Balfour, Onaping Falls, Walden and some neighboring communities.

Frood mine

The Frood Mine is a nickel mine. It is type locality for the minerals Froodit , Michenerit and the 1936 discovered parkerite .
