Mechanical ohm
The mechanical ohm ( symbol : mech. Ω ) is an outdated unit of mechanical impedance . The Ω (large Greek omega) without the addition of mech. stands for ohm , the SI unit of electrical resistance and impedance of electromagnetic waves.
The mechanical impedance is the quotient of the driving force and the speed of sound, and describes the resistance that a material opposes to a mechanical vibration. Force and speed are described as complex quantities that depend on the phase angle of the oscillation. The impedance is therefore generally a complex quantity.
