The medal "Liberation from the fascist yoke" ( Romanian Medalia eliberarea de sub jugul fascist ) was a state award of the Socialist Republic of Romania . The foundation took place on July 28, 1949 by Decree 309 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The statutes were published in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 49. In the strict sense, the medal was an anniversary medal, which was awarded on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Romanian social, national, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist liberation revolution. Possible candidates were military and civilians who had participated in the fight against fascism.

The obverse of the bronze-oxidized medal shows a left-looking portrait of a Romanian and a Soviet soldier with a steel helmet on his head. The inscription reads: ELIBERAREA DE SUB JUGUL FASCIST (Liberation from the fascist yoke), which is separated on the underside by a five-pointed star. The reverse of the medal shows an open laurel wreath with the capital RPR . In the middle is the three-line inscription: IN SLUJBA / POPORULUI / MUNCITOR (In the service of the working people). It is not known whether the capital letters were changed to RSR after the change of government in 1965 .

The medal was worn on the left chest of the borrower on a 22 mm wide dark red ribbon on a pentagonal clasp with three white stripes, each 3.5 mm wide.
