The medal "For excellent performance in the FDJ festival program" was an award from the Free German Youth (FDJ) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in one step for excellent performance in the preparation and implementation of the FDJ festival program in 1973 . Among the first to be honored was the Minister for State Security Erich Mielke , who received the award in June 1973.

The medal has the shape of a flower with five circles around its round central medallion. These are colored enamel and (from top to right) in the colors: red-green-purple-blue-yellow. The middle medallion in bronze is made in the form of a globe with degrees of longitude and latitude, in the middle of which the black year: 1973 can be read in a deepened position. The reverse of the medal is smooth and blank. The medal was worn on a rectangular blue enameled clasp on the upper left chest of the borrower. The symbol of the FDJ can be seen in the center of the clasp, which is flanked by the inscription: FESTIVAL (left) and AufGEBOT (right).
