Medal commemorative française

The Médaille commemorative française ( German-  French commemorative medal ) is a French medal of honor . It can be awarded to soldiers and civilians who have participated in certain missions outside of French territory after March 1, 1991. The award goes back to the former French Defense Minister François Léotard and was donated by decree 95-1098 of the French President François Mitterrand on October 9, 1995.

The medal can also be awarded to members of foreign armed forces and civilians who have served under French command, for example under a UN mandate or a NATO mandate . In accordance with the foundation decree, the approval of the respective government of the recipient must be obtained.

Badge of honor

The decoration is round and has a diameter of 30 mm. On the front is the portrait of Marianne with the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE , on the reverse it bears the inscription Médaille commémorative française .
