from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The medal for services to the friendship of peoples was an award of the League for Friendship of the Nations of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1974 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the GDR in one level in gold . They were awarded for the promotion, development and deepening of friendly relations between the GDR and other countries. In contrast to its counterpart, the badge of honor for services to the friendship of peoples , the medal, which is otherwise identical to the badge of honor, was worn with a clasp.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal is almost square, 34 mm wide and has a point on its head. A round medallion rests on it, which takes up almost the entire square, except for the tips. In the middle of the medallion is the symbol of the League of Peoples Friendship, a stylized globe with an equator and longitudes and latitudes with indicated points. The globe is enclosed by a writing ring with the inscription: FOR MERIT TO THE FRIENDSHIP OF THE GDR . The medal was worn on a white lacquered and plastic-coated white clasp, in which a miniature of the obverse of the medal was embossed on the upper left side of the chest.
