Badge of honor for services to the friendship of peoples

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The badge of honor for services to the friendship of peoples was an award of the League for Friendship of Nations of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1964 in three stages, bronze , silver and gold . They were awarded for the promotion, development and deepening of friendly relations between the GDR and other countries. In contrast to its counterpart, the medal for services to the friendship of peoples , this badge of honor, which is otherwise identical to the medal, was worn without a clasp.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze, silver-plated or gold-plated badge is almost square, 34 mm wide and has a point on its head. A round medallion rests on it, which takes up almost the entire square, except for the tips. In the middle of the medallion is the symbol of the League of Friendship between Nations, a stylized globe with equator and latitude and longitude with indicated points. The globe is enclosed by a writing ring with the inscription: FOR MERIT TO THE FRIENDSHIP OF THE GDR . Until 1967, however, the badge of honor was smaller and also enamelled in blue.
