Stockholm's medeltidsmuseum
Stockholms medeltidsmuseum ( German Stockholmer Medieval Museum ) is a museum in the Swedish capital Stockholm .
The museum is located on the island of Helgeandsholmen , north of Stockholm Castle . In the late 1970s, extensive archaeological excavations were carried out in front of the Reichstag building. Among other things, medieval ships and part of the old city wall have been found. Instead of a planned underground car park, the museum was built around the old monuments at this point. The museum director Margareta Hallerdt and the visual artist Kerstin Rydh were responsible for the innovative design of the underground museum . It opened in 1986 and in the same year the museum was named European Museum of the Year .
Between 2007 and 2010 the museum was closed due to renovation work on the Norrbro Bridge . The museum is dedicated to Stockholm's medieval history (1250s to 1520s). Various themed exhibitions take place in it. There is also a museum shop in it.
