MediaFLO

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MediaFLO is a standard developed by the American chip manufacturer Qualcomm for the transmission of television images to mobile devices ( mobile television ). The term MediaFLO is an artificial word made up of Media and FLO, where FLO is the abbreviation for "Forward Link Only".

technology

In addition to DVB-H and DMB , MediaFLO is another technology for multicast transmission of television images and other media content.

The maximum possible data transfer rate should be up to 11 Mbit / s and the battery consumption of the mobile devices should be significantly lower than with the previous standards (up to four hours with a standard battery). The time required when changing channels should be reduced to approx. One and a half seconds.

Use worldwide

Qualcomm has founded a subsidiary called MediaFlo and is currently building a broadcast network in the USA. In the USA, Verizon and AT&T rely on MediaFlo. In Europe, MediaFlo is being tested by Qualcomm in cooperation with the British company BSkyB (British Sky Broadcasting).
