Medialaan is a Belgian media group. It is the parent company of several private television and radio stations, including VTM . The company is named after the street name where the company's headquarters are located. Until February 2014 the group was called Vlaamse Media Maatschappij (VMMa).
history
Medialaan was founded in 1987 as Vlaamse Televisie Maatschappij by nine publishers, each with 11.1% shares.
Since 1998 De Persgroep and the Roularta Media Group each owned 50% of the shares.
On May 31, 1999 the name was changed to Vlaamse Media Maatschappij and on February 3, 2014 to Medialaan .
In February 2005, the company sold its 50% stake in the Plopsaland theme park to Studio 100 .
In 2007 the second national private radio station 4Fm of the Dutch media holding Talpa was bought by John de Mol . This acquisition enabled Medialaan to compete with the public VRT .
It used to be illegal in Flanders for a media company to own two national radio stations. This law was changed in the summer of 2006.
In November 2010 the broadcasters Vitaya and Vitaliteit were taken over.
In 2011, all phone games were stopped on all channels after they appeared negatively in the press.
In September 2015 it was announced that the youth channel JIM would cease broadcasting on December 16 and be replaced by the children's program Kadet.
At the end of 2015, Mobile Vikings was taken over by Medialaan, and the JIM Mobile joint venture previously operated with BASE was acquired .
In July 2016, the television stations Acht and Lacht were taken over. Eight has been renamed CAZ, Lacht has been discontinued.
In October 2017, it was announced that Roularta wanted to sell its shares in the Medialaan Group, so that De Persgroep would become the sole shareholder of Medialaan.
Qgroup
Qgroup is the parent company of the commercial radio stations Qmusic and JOE FM. This holding is active in Dutch-speaking Belgium and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands this group only owns QMusic Nederland.
