Medieval Worlds. Comparative & Interdisciplinary Studies is a double-blind peer-reviewed ( peer-reviewed ) scientific journal of the Institute for Medieval Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . It is published online and open access every six months by the publishing house of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

The focus of the journal is on interdisciplinary, transcultural and comparative studies in the period from approx. 400 to 1500 CE with a focus on Europe, Asia and North Africa. The founders and current editors are Walter Pohl and Andre Gingrich .

The journal was founded in 2015 with start-up funding from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) as part of an initiative to promote innovative open access journals.

Medieval Worlds is indicated in CrossRef , DOAJ , ERIH PLUS and ECB .
