The University Medicine Tirana ( alb. Universiteti i Mjekësisë, Tiranë) is a state university for medicine in the Albanian capital Tirana . It is located in the northeast of the city center opposite the grounds of the Mother Teresa University Hospital.

Around 7,850 students were enrolled at the university in the 2016/17 academic year. In the previous year there were 778 academic teaching staff employed, of which 292 were employed by the university and 159 employed at the university hospitals of Tirana and were also employed at the university.

history

In 1952 the Higher Institute for Medicine was founded in Tirana. When the University of Tirana was founded in 1957 , it was integrated into the country's first university as a medical faculty, along with five other higher education institutes.

On January 23, 2013, the faculty was spun off as an independent university.

Faculties

The Tirana University Medical Center is divided into 22 departments, which are divided into three faculties:

  • Faculty of Medicine
  • Faculty of Dentistry
  • Faculty of Medical Technology
